St. Petersburg: Don’t go there

Lawmakers in St. Petersburg, Russia have passed a bill which will make it illegal to publically talk about, discuss or mention anything to do with homosexuality or being gay. However, all is not lost – the bill will not become law until it is signed by St. Petersburg Govenor, Georgy Poltavchenko. You don’t need me to tell you that this draconian and medieval idea is absolutely wrong and marks a stark regression for the city and the country as a whole. Laughably, St. Petersburg wants to market itself as a popular tourist destination. Here’s some advice – if this bill is passed, do not go there. If I had enough money to pick and choose my holiday destinations, St. Petersburg would certainly not be on my list. However, as I am poorer than a church mouse, all I can do is advise you, reader. Do not go to St. Petersburg until this bill is thrown out and its supporters thoroughly shamed. I’d like you to do two things, and they will only take you 5 minutes in total. Firstly, please watch the video below and comment on it to show your support (and also to enjoy Tchaikovsky’s beautiful music from Swan Lake).

And secondly, please visit the below link and sign the petition which will be shown to Poltavchenko. This isn’t some sad kid’s website inventing emotive polls just to see how many ‘hits’ they can get. These petitions DO get used to illustrate global support for what is clearly the right side of the debate, and more of AllOut’s success stories can be seen by browsing the website. Signing the petition takes less than 30 seconds – you do not need to set up any sort of account or password to do it:

And to be cheeky, thirdly, I would ask you to share this with as many people as you can.

This is something I really believe in. I hope you believe in it too.
